King & Allen’s top tips for your big day °Å¸
For many women, finding a wedding suit that fits, in a style that they like, is a bit of a nightmare. The options on the high street are extremely limited and many bespoke tailors don’t even make suits for women. Add to that some seriously awkward customer service and the whole experience can feel a bit disappointing.
At King & Allen, we want to change this experience. Every woman who walks through our door is made to feel welcome and cared for. We understand that choosing a wedding suit can be both exciting and nerve-racking. Not only are you choosing what to wear on the most important day of your life, but you are also deciding what to wear on a day where you will be photographed more than you ever have! For that reason, we want to make you a suit that makes you feel at your absolute best.
We have made several thousand wedding suits since we first started our bespoke tailoring company in 2003. We know what makes a successful women’s wedding suit! Here are our best tips on choosing a suit well, so that you can look back at your wedding photos with pride.
6 Top Tips on Choosing a Wedding Suit
1. Don’t compromise on your wedding suit
Do not “settle” on anything that you are not 100% happy with. Your wedding suit should make you look and feel amazing. Anything less than that is doing you (and your wife!) a disservice.
2. Your suit needs to fit you beautifully
Your wedding day is one of the occasions in your life when a well-fitting suit is an absolute must. Even the most expensive designer suit can look cheap if it doesn’t fit properly. It is unlikely that you will be able to wear a suit straight from the high street. Women’s bodies differ so drastically that your wedding suit will undoubtedly need some form of tailoring, whether that means going bespoke or getting adjustments on a suit you have already bought. You will be very happy that you made the effort to do so.
3. Your wedding suit should have longevity
Your wedding suit has the potential to be worn for many years to come. Keep this at the back of your mind when deciding upon the style of your suit. King & Allen made singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan’s wedding suit and she continues to wear it on a regular basis, mixing and matching each piece with the rest of her wardrobe. Investing in a truly fantastic wedding suit doesn’t feel so self-indulgent when you plan to wear it for the next 10 years!
4. Your suit should be a reflection of you and your wedding
When choosing a wedding suit, keep the style of the wedding in mind. Getting married in a big country barn? A rustic tweed suit will look amazing. Getting married in a town hall in the middle of the city? Something more refined and sharp would be better. Additionally, the climate of your wedding should steer the weight of cloth you choose. Don’t make the mistake of wearing a heavyweight three-piece suit at your beach wedding. You will be rather uncomfortable!
5. Make it personal
If possible, take advantage of any opportunities to customise your wedding suit. Personalised details, such as the date of your wedding embroidered on the inside lining of the jacket, are a lovely way to mark the occasion or surprise your wife. At King & Allen, details such as this are free of charge!
6. Don’t leave your suit until the last minute
Don’t make the mistake of leaving your wedding suit to the last minute. This will only lead to unnecessary stress and panic-buying. Instead, start shopping for your suit at least 6 months before your wedding date. If you are having a bespoke suit made for your wedding, this will be well within your tailor’s lead times. If you are purchasing off-the-peg, it will give you time to make an unhurried decision on the right wedding suit for you.
