STONEWALL NAMES LLOYDS BANKING GROUP THE UK’S MOST INCLUSIVE EMPLOYER

Lloyds praised for commitment to workplace equality.

The Top 100 Employers list by the charity Stonewall ranks organisations in Britain based on answers from employees about culture, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Lloyds, which came second to MI5 last year, launched a new colleague volunteering programme and formed official partnership with LGBT charities. The group was praised by Stonewall for featuring a same-sex marriage proposal in their advertising and becoming the first UK-owned company to extend private healthcare policy to transgender people.

This year, 439 organisations took part in the index and more than 92,000 employees from within these organisations completed an anonymous survey about their employers.

Commenting on winning the top spot, António Horta Osório, Group CEO at Lloyds Banking Group, said in a statement, “We are honoured to be recognised by Stonewall as the leading employer for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Lloyds Banking Group is committed to supporting diversity in its workforce so that we can harness all of the qualities and talents of our colleagues to achieve our aim of helping Britain prosper.”

Law firm Pinsent Masons came second (up from fifth in 2016), followed by bank J.P. Morgan (41 in 2016).

Nine government organisations were also named among the top 100 employers for LGBT staff.

New entries included the House of Commons at 28th and the Scottish government at 50th, while the Office of National Statistics, the Land Registry and the National Crime Registry also made the 2017 list.

Stonewall, who published their report on Thursday, noted that one in eight LGB respondents would not feel comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation to any managers or senior colleagues.

Furthermore, one in five trans employees wouldn’t feel comfortable disclosing their gender identity to any colleagues.
