Mara Wilson: Coming out was an emotional decision

The Matilda star says the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Matilda star Mara Wilson has spoken about coming out as bisexual earlier this year, a decision which she describes as "emotional".

The 29-year-old actress spoke publicly for the first time about embracing her "bi/queer label" in June following a conversation about the tragic  shooting in Orlando with her Twitter followers.

Speaking about gay bars, Wilson said: "I haven't been to one since college, except once when a friend brought me along. I didn't feel like I belonged there. But the LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself."

Now the young actress has told People that while she didn't plan to come out in the way she did, she's glad of the positive feedback.

"If I had known it was going to trend on Facebook, I don't know that I would have done it just then," said Wilson. "But the vast majority of feedback has been positive."

She went on: "I had no idea this would be such a thing, but I guess it's flattering… Thank you so much to everybody who has sent me words of support. I support you all, too."
