Like a Hitchcock thriller where everyone is not what they seem, but sleazier, and everyone is bisexual (including, in the original script, the male leads!). The male gaze-i-ness of the female characters’ relationship is IMO balanced somewhat by who turns out to be the one who comes out on top in the end.
