Two focuses—the budding romance between Nick and Charlie, and the friendships in their group of queer friends and allies. Nick and Charlie both rarely fit any stereotypes, and in fact their characters vocally push back against common queer stereotypes. The lesbian couple, Tara and Darcy, are fully fleshed out characters with unique personalities who do not lean into stereotypes either. Similarly, the trans character, Elle, has a personality and journey of her own which are informed by her experiences as a trans person but also stand alone as uniquely hers.
Some of the LGBTQ+ cast and crew:
Alice Oseman (aspec)
Kit Connor (queer)
Joe Locke (gay)
Yasmin Finney (trans)
Kizzy Edgell (nb)
Tobie Donovan (queer)
