Rocking It From The Rooftops As ‘Sick Of Sarah’ Releases EP

Sick of Sarah release new single “Rooftops” from upcoming Anthem EP.

Sick of Sarah release new single ‘Rooftops’ from upcoming Anthem EP.

Sick of Sarah (“SoS”, which includes Abisha Uhl, guitarist/vocalist Jessie Farmer, guitarist/vocalist Katie Murphy and drummer/vocalist Jessica Forsythe) are a Minneapolis-based rock/pop band and they have released their fist single from their upcoming Anthem EP (June 30).

“Rooftops” is upbeat and is quick to draw you in and is an instant must have inclusion on your playlist. Perhaps it’s the punchy drums of Forsythe that did it for me as it builds the perfect amount of pathos into a rock anthem – you’ll blast this loud and proud after a hard days work!

The band declares a burning need to get out of town or perhaps, in this case, their previous label.  Elements of art imitating life seep through from their real life experience with this being SoS’s first independent release, having parted from their decade long relationship with label Adamant Records.

What this departure seems to have done is spurred the band on with some powerful writing material and has given us, the listener, a powerful track. It leaves me wanting more.  Having been lucky enough to sample the EP Anthem it won’t disappoint fans when it’s released on June 30.

To celebrate the single release I was lucky enough to ask Forsythe some questions about the single, album and what challenges have face SoS in self-releasing Anthem.

It sounds like it’s been a busy period in the bands evolution with a departure from Adamant Records.  Could you let us know how you think that has impacted on the theme for the upcoming LP Anthem?

JF (SoS) – Not having a label has it’s challenges.

With releasing independently, we now have 100% creative control and we feel that shows in this record.

These 6 tracks were hand picked by the band and we hope it illustrates our creative growth as a unit.

What has been the biggest challenge to self-releasing this single and upcoming album?

JF (SoS) – I would say our biggest challenge was funding the record. We worked and are continuing to work extremely hard to treat our band like a business and it’s a learning curve for us all.

“Rooftops” is a punchy single – I love it (especially the drums) – Can you tell me where the sound came from and the overall inspiration for the track?

JF (SoS) – Jessie and I spent an afternoon listening to different records and one record in particular was The 1975.  We all really love that record especially the production and thought we could apply some of those ideas to the pre-existing rough cut of “Rooftops” Jessie and Abisha wrote in LA a few years prior.

What can your Curve fans expect to see in your tour shows over the next few months?

JF (SoS) – Hmm. We love hanging out with our fans and interacting with them on stage.  We crack a lot of jokes, make each other laugh and rock hard on stage! We can’t wait to see you all! Xo
