Villains And Villenettes

The Villenettes  love Elvis, Sailor Jerry, vintage guitars, bad horror movies, leather jackets, leopard print dresses, and running amok on a Saturday night.

They play original rock’n’roll with a splash of surf, a shimmy of girl group and a razor edge of zombie punk.

Adding fuel to the crazy, Curve weasels out the wild side of these four sexy rockabilly Villenettes, and force out confessions on the true inner lives of this rock sensation.

How would you describe your sound?

Anna: Our sound is like a romantic moment on the beach with your [lover] and just when you’re about to tell each other how much you love one another, you get a text message from your ex, a bird poops on you and you lose your car keys but you find $50, a prepaid ticket to the zoo and a bottle of Sailor Jerry.

Describe yourself in 1-2 sentences:

Jess: Rum drinking rock ‘n’ roll machine.

Kylie: A rock and roll lawyer with a deep and abiding love of The Beatles, who knows dinner is ready when the smoke alarm goes off.

What’s your favourite Villenettes song? What’s it about?

Kylie: Psycho Nanna is about the first time I took my girlfriend home to meet my 91-year-old grandma, whom I wasn’t out to previously. It’s about a grandma going on a murdering rampage because she wants grandbabies. Basically. Turns out my Nanna is a champ though and my girlfriend is alive and well. Also it has a great riff.

Who is the most out of control in the group?

Claire: Jess (guitarist) would be the most out of control. We have affectionately nick-named her “sailor jessy”, which is her Sailor Jerry rum infused alter-ego. Sailor Jessy is not to be messed with and best not given direct eye contact. I once saw her lift a whole car above her head. Seriously. Not really, but you get the idea.

How’d you get the name of the band, The Villenettes?

Claire: We had a wonderful brain-storming session, just like business women in power suits with shoulder pads in a board room, with a whiteboard and a little cloud in the middle titled “sweet band names”.

What do you look for in a girlfriend?

Claire: Someone who is generally nice would top the list. Also someone who can share my unusual hobbies and interests, such as watching The Deadliest Catch, whilst making friendship bracelets out of macaroni and glitter.
