Same-Sex Couples Officially Welcome in Las Vegas

With Nevada’s new marriage equality you can say “I Do” in Vegas.

While Las Vegas has always been a world-class wedding capital, and welcoming of gays and lesbians who choose to have their unions, honeymoons and vacations there, state laws have lagged behind.

But not anymore! On October 7, 2014 the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the same-sex marriage ban in Nevada.

Nevada is now one of the 32 states to legalize gay marriage. Clark County will begin accepting marriage applications from same-sex couples on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m., one day after a federal appeals court declared gay marriage legal in Nevada.

Las Vegas has long been a popular destination for lesbians, with Girl Bar’s Dinah Vegas celebrating its fourth successful year next April.

While it’s “all about the Strip,” now there’s even more reason to make your visit to Vegas an official one.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) issued the following statement: “This is a historic day for Las Vegas and the great state of Nevada. As the ‘Wedding Capital of the World’ and one of the top destinations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender visitors, Las Vegas welcomes LGBT couples wishing to legally recognize their relationship. There is simply no better destination to host a fabulous wedding followed by a one-of-a-kind honeymoon.”

Boasting more than 300 sunny days a year, Las Vegas provides the perfect backdrop for a wedding—plus a huge choice of venues at numerous price points.

With nearly 100,000 marriage licenses already issued each year, this number is now expected to grow. What happens in Vegas can stay in Vegas—or now you can put a ring on it, make it official, and take it home with you!
