The Human Rights Arts and Film Festival (HRAFF), a non-for-profit Arts organisation, opened today in Melbourne. HRAFF are committed to showcasing diverse and important arts and film from across the globe.
The festival aims to inspire and engage with audiences across a range of themes and ideas. The program includes inspiring, uplifting, and moving stories that aim to affect change.
Out To Win is one film that will be shown as part of the festival. This powerful and enriching documentary explores the presence and inclusion of the LGBTIQ community within sporting communities.
Chronicling the dramatic history of gay and lesbian sports professionals, director Malcolm Ingram has included interviews with a comprehensive selection of all-star athletes – including tennis legends Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova.
The film speaks to the potential of sport as a cultural phenomenon to be an inclusive community that provides positive representation for future LGBTIQ sports superstars.
Following the film, a panel will be held to discuss the themes of the film.
