Southern California Musical Duo Sapphica, Launch Rap Video

The comedic hip-hop inspired rap video includes twins in bikinis being dowsed in Cheerios and lyrics paying homage to Stepbrother’s Boats and Hoes.

Sapphica, a southern California band announced its first IndiGogo campaign today.

The fundraiser is designed to raise money for Sapphica’s next music video for “Ready” a song off of their upcoming album. Although quite opposite from their music, their IndiGogo video is a comedic hip-hop inspired rap that includes twins in bikinis being dowsed in Cheerios, the band mates hitting dangerously high speeds on a Vespa – the same Vespa, and lyrics that pay homage to Dumb and Dumber and Stepbrother’s “Boats and Hoes”.

Sapphica is an independent band made up of UC Santa Barbara alumni Kristen Mann, a professional women’s basketball player and Gabriel Mann, an international filmmaker. Kristen, an open lesbian and Gabe, a supportive friend, both advocate for equal rights, a constant undertone in their lyrics.

“We’ve made two music videos on pennies and we’re eager to take the next step” says Gabriel. “Our music gets better by the day and our new song ‘Ready’ is just screaming for a big, cinematic video.”

Sapphica has two videos they’ve written, produced, and directed on their own dime, talent, and vision. Their latest video “RobotiX” is available on YouTube and while their budget was limited, the outcome is more along the lines of a short feature film rather than a low-budget music video that takes viewers on a journey that includes lesbians lovers, sex, violence, and in the case of RobotiX, female cyborgs in lingerie.

All funds generated through the IndiGogo campaign will be used to create a video that, as Kristen shares, “is going to be potently violent, outrageously sexy, and beyond anything we’ve attempted before.”

Gabriel adds, “While we have zero interest in gratuitous, indulgent violence or booty shaking, make no mistake, this video will be intense, raw, sexy, shocking, and will push boundaries.” Shappica’s campaign goal is $15,000 and the band will offer perks for supporters based on their contribution including a signed Takamine guitar signed by the band at the $2,000 donation level or a complete photo shoot – either film or video – by Gabriel Mann for contributors at the $3,000 level.

Donation levels also include perks such as behind the scenes footage, a redband version of the video, and autographed merchandise.
