Karen Javitch along with Gene Klosner recently posted a video on YouTube dedicated to the struggles of the LGBTI community, “Missing: The Day I Can Marry The One I Love”.

The song focuses on a number of issues from missing equality to missing presidents all culminating in the stark reality of the message – that we cannot marry the one we love.

The song itself is well written and executed.  However, like the albums which Javitch has generously created and is now donating copies to national and local gay rights groups, the songs are crying out for an adaptation for a Broadway show.

That is to say, all of these tunes are well crafted, sung and catchy but there is no shaking the element of show tune that underlies each one.

With an assortment of male and female artists, including The Maynard Triplets, Grace Bydalek and produced by Chuck Pennington – part of Mannheim Steamroller (known for blending classical music and rock) it’s no wonder these albums are stooped in show tune glory.

Javitch herself having written a number of musicals, including Princess Diana: the Musical continues with that distinct flavor here in her two album releases “Women in Love” and “Men in Love”, so much so that I was wanting to see these songs transformed into a musical depicting the plight of the gay community in its struggle for marriage equality.

It is undeniable, Javitch’s passion for equality in the LGBTI community is immense and since releasing the albums “Women in Love” and “Men in Love” late last year, she has already donated 1500 copies of her work.

At the time of writing this article I was informed that Javitch was seeking to give every newly married same sex couple (in Nebraska) a copy of the CD’s to celebrate the lifting of the ban– however given recent events with the Circuit Court it looks like she will have to wait just that little bit longer.
