San Francisco’s Pink Saturday street party, part of the annual Pride celebrations, was marred by violence when a gunman turned his pistol upon the crowd, injuring three and killing one.
The incident took place in popular gay precinct the Castro, and was witnessed by hundreds of onlookers.
Police believe the violence was gang related rather than a hate crime in response to the Pride celebrations.
They currently have two suspects in custody who were alleged to have had a conflict with the dead victim, Stephen Powell, earlier in the evening
Police spokesman Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.Ed Perkins, 20, of San Francisco, remains in custody today, charged with one count of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Stephen Powell,
Police said a gunman opened fire into a crowd at Market and Castro streets at about 11:30 p.m., killing Powell and injuring a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man.
Powell was hit in the torso; the other victims were each struck in the leg and are expected to survive.
Powell and the other two victims did not know each other.
