Kansas has won its right to marriage equality.
November 4, 2014 marked another victory for the LGBT community as Kansas joins 32 other states who now recognize same-sex marriage. Within the last month, marriage equality has spread throughout the nation faster than some of us even thought possible.
It is estimated in Kansas alone, over 4,000 same sex couples are cohabiting and 22% of those couples are raising children in their homes.
Although this is fantastic news for the state of Kansas, this isn’t the end of the fight for marriage equality throughout the country.
Even though the 6th district court upheld the same-sex marriage ban in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, ultimately one or more of those cases will be heard in front of the Supreme Court of the United States, and the hope is to end the fight in ALL states for marriage equality once and for all. This is not the end of the fight, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.
It is clear that we will be victorious! In the meantime, congrats to Kansas!
