Queer writing competition offers more than bragging rights.
Queer writers, prepare your mighty pens because Chroma International Queer Writing Competition is kicking off its third annual writing contest. Based in London, the competition offers cash prizes for original and unpublished stories or poems.
Slated to judge the entries for this year, are author Thomas Glave and Brand Magazine poetry editor Cherry Smyth. Previous years’ judges include the likes of Sarah Waters, Ali Smith and Mark Doty.
While Chroma showcases writing from the LGBT community, writers from all walks of life are welcome to enter. First place will be awarded $493, second will receive $247 and third takes home $123. The limit for each story or poem is 5,000 words and the entry fee is $8 for each story.
Along with Chroma’s cash prizes, writers also have the chance at two additional awards. The best story created by a trans writer or written with a trans theme will take The Transfabulous Story Prize while the Velvet Flash Fiction Prize goes to the best fictional piece that is no longer than 150 words on any topic. Both awards also offer a cash prize of $329.
