Here are five lesbian college basketball players that went on to do some pretty cool things after graduation.
Kate Fagan
You might recognize Kate Fagan from ESPN’s wildly popular sports talk show, Around The Horn. She also penned the memoir, The Reappearing Act— an intriguing story about her struggle as a closeted basketball player on a team full of Christians. Fagan played for Colorado University and was the team’s best three-point shooter throughout her college career. The Buffaloes made it to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the elite eight during her tenor.

Brittney Griner
Does Brittney Griner even need an introduction? This brave and courageous LGBT activist is currently playing professional basketball for the Phoenix Mercury and supplementing her income by playing professionally overseas. But long before her Nike contract and her engagement to fellow WNBA baller, Glory Johnson, Griner helped Baylor University win a national championship. She also holds the NCAA record for blocks in a single season.
Layshea Clarendon
Layshea Clarendon may have had difficulty finding her voice as a lesbian college athlete, but that’s not the case anymore. Today, she’s a professional basketball player for the Indiana Fever and an outspoken advocate for Br{ache the Silence, a campaign designed to “tear down the walls of homophobia in women’s sports.” In college, Clarendon played for the University of California, Berkeley, where she helped the Bears reach the national semifinals in the 2012 season.
Michelle Marciniak
Michelle Marciniak played college basketball for the University of Tennessee, when the Lady Vols were on the peak of perfection. Under the incomparable Pat Summit, Marciniak led the team to a surprising National Championship win over the UConn Huskies in the 1996 NCAA Tournament. Today, she is married to former women’s college basketball player, Beth Brooke—the first woman to ever receive a basketball scholarship by Purdue University. Both women are advocates for marriage equality.
Seimone Augustus
Considered once of the best women’s college basketball players to ever play the game, Seimone Augustus guided the LSU Tigers to three straight Final Four appearances. Now, as a member of the Minnesota Lynx, she is one of the most recognizable and popular stars in the entire WNBA. Augustus has also been a vocal supporter of marriage equality since 2012, and a visible out athlete on and off the court.
