Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz’s new film about faith and forbidden passion looks wonderful

They play Orthodox Jewish lovers reunited after years apart

A-listers Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz star in Disobedience, a brand new film exploring the potent themes of faith and forbidden love. This gripping drama from acclaimed director Sebastián Lelio is based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman.

Rachel Weisz plays Ronit, who comes home to the Orthodox Jewish community in North London following the death of her estranged rabbi father. It’s the first time she’s been back since she was ostracised for falling in love with her childhood friend, Esti, played by Rachel McAdams. Esti is now married to a man named Dovid. She tells Ronit, “I think he felt that marriage would cure me.”

The reunion reignites their desire and both tension and passion mount. The Guardian called Disobedience “rich and rewarding, a powerful love story” and described the film’s “overwhelming passion and eroticism”.

With excellent performances and compelling themes, Disobedience promises to be one of this year’s must-see films.

It’s scheduled to release in the US on 27 April 2018 and in the UK on 24 August 2018. Check out the trailer here:
