The 30th anniversary is expected to attracted 7,500 people.
Eight-time Grammy Award-winner Fergie has been confirmed as the headline performance at NYC Pride’s iconic Dance on the Pier.
2016 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Dance on the Pier. The iconic event began in 1986 as an act of rebellion in a time when LGBT people could not safely dance together in public. This will be the final year Dance on the Pier takes place on Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 as the riverfront venue is being transformed into a recreation space.
The Dance on the Pier is NYC Pride’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds support NYC Pride’s other public events, including the Rally, March and Family Movie Night.
Fergie, who says she feels honored to perform at the event, will be performing her top hits as well as songs from her new solo album. She says, “There have been so many incredible artists who have performed at this landmark event in the past, and we’re going to create something extra special to celebrate this milestone.”
More than 7,500 people are expected to attend this year, which has sold out in recent years.
Jose Ramos, NYC Pride Dance on the Pier Director said, “Fergie is a stellar singer-songwriter, a world-class performer, and a long-time advocate for LGBT people. This is a performance that our guests will be talking about for years to come.”
NYC Pride Managing Director Chris Frederick said everyone is eager to see what the Dance on the Pier event will grow and become in future years.
“For the last 30 years, some of the most unforgettable memories of NYC Pride have happened at the Dance on the Pier,” said Frederick. “We can’t wait for Fergie to bring the house down one last time at Pier 26, and we’re eager to see what our largest fundraiser can become in 2017 and beyond.”
