Almost shedding their 20’s indie pop/rock roots completely, Heartthrob is an ode to eighties synth-driven pop rock.
This duo have long progressed their sound over the last decade and the folk sound that was so prevalent in “This Business Art” and “If It Was You” has all but gone.
Keenly though, the Quins have still maintained their identity and whilst this seventh outing is clearly a step into the mainstream for them, once and for all, it’s still distinctly Tegan and Sara.
Highlights on the record include the hit “Closer”, which aptly opens the album and sets the listener up for what is yet to come.
“Drove Me Wild” has you longing for a roller rink and a hot date all at once. Finally “Now I’m all Messed Up” has youthinking your part of a Greek tragedy/daytime soap melodrama leaving you dazed and confused and entirely the better for it.
