Preview new track ‘Loreena’ here.
New York-based singer-songwriter and artist Rachael Sage will release her new album, Choreographic, on May 20.
Curve is pleased to preview the track “Loreena,” of which Sage explains: “I wrote ‘Loreena’ in a dream about someone whom I’ve never met. I literally woke up singing the chorus, and then went to the keyboard to work out the accompaniment.”
Who is the mystery lady and inspiration for the song? “Later I realized I was singing about a very complex, independent woman with qualities of several women I have loved,” reveals Sage.
These women have been combined into a composite portrait, and for some time, the name of the woman eluded even Sage herself, who tried singing many names and phrases that might fit. “Ultimately, I decided to use the name of one of my very favorite artists and influences, Loreena McKennitt.”
In honor of McKennitt’s Celtic roots, and in the tradition of her own rich and diverse musical backing, Sage incorporated an accordion and fiddle as accompaniment. It was also a thank you to McKennitt’s roots, which provided Sage with such inspiration early in her career.
