A new documentary by Malcolm Ingram gives an inside look into the lives and careers of gay and lesbian from across the globe.
The path of the professional gay athlete has always been a long, tough journey. It’s one that we may never fully come to understand. But it you’ve ever truly wondered what it’s like to walk a day in their shoes, filmmaker Malcolm “Mo” Ingram has the next best thing. The controversial director and podcaster is best known for such hit documentaries as Bear Nation and Continental. Now he’s ready to release Out to Win, which takes an inside look into to the careers and personal struggles of professional gay and lesbian athletes from across the globe.
Out to Win showcases these athletes in the most rawest form, allowing each and every one of them to share their story and express their true feelings in the their own words. Some of the athletes appearing in the documentary include: Brittney Griner, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Jason Collins, Wade Davis, David Kopay, CharlineLabonté, Conner Mertens, and John Amaechi.
It’s extremely important for the LGBT community to maintain a recorded history of the lives and careers of those athletes who have paved the way for diversity in sport. Years from now, we’ll be able to look back and listen to the voices of Jason Collins, Brittney Griner and Billie Jean King, and cherish the lengths they went to in order to achieve equality.
Ingram’s documentary is set to premier this month at SXSW in Austin, TX on March 15, 17 and 18.
