Getting Married & Getting Away: Newlyweds Sara Everest & Kate McConnell on their Argentine Destination Wedding with Fabulous Weddings!
Saturday and Sunday
After a day to ourselves on Saturday, roaming the San Telmo Market in Palermo and exploring Buenos Aires with Donna, we spent our final full day in Argentina playing polo. The Argentina Polo Day was a fun and uniquely Argentine experience without which our trip would not have been complete. In true Argentine fashion, our hosts were accommodating despite the bad weather, providing us with ponchos, mate, and lots of red wine to boost our courage before we took to horseback. We got a taste of history and a review of the technical nature of the sport before spectating a private game. We then enjoyed a traditional Argentine barbecue experience akin to a family-style potluck of never-ending steak, salad, and wine on the most beautiful Argentine countryside manor. Conversations with fellow guests and hosts and polo players were interesting and made the experience unforgettable.
Our last day, Monday, Leti met us in the hotel lobby one last time. Thank you, Leti, for bringing necessary translation, humor and excitement every step of the way. With our legalized wedding certificate in one hand and a souvenir sack of rice in the other, we got a big warm Leti-hug goodbye and thanked the Own Hotel, unable to convey how overcome we were by their unending hospitality.
Squeezing the last drops of vacation out of our trip, we packed quickly and set off through the rainy morning for a final visit to our favorite coffee shop around the corner. After a cookie and some coffee, we strolled down uneven sidewalks through throngs of teenagers on the drizzly streets that were finally feeling familiar. We spontaneously grabbed a couple slices of the irresistible fugazetta pizza on our way back, knowing this may be our last chance for a while.
The half hour drive to the airport was a goodbye tour of the eclectic city of Buenos Aires that we had come to know. Fresh, vibrant graffiti painted on elaborate hundred-year old buildings and flashes of jacaranda-purple whizzed past us…
Adios, Argentina! We’ll be back!
