New Year, New Music

Kick off 2019 with releases from Dido, Ladytron, Bitch and the latest on The Dinah.

Whether you thrive on the chaos of the holidays or you survived with your sanity barely intact, we made it to 2019. To kick off the New Year, we have a collection of fresh tunes for you to play while making your resolutions or hiding from the winter chill. We also have all of the latest details on the biggest party of the year, The Dinah.

The Dinah

Dust off that swimsuit and pack your bags because The Dinah will be here before you know it – and it’s sure to be unforgettable.

This is the 29th year of the annual Sapphic celebration that got its name from the annual Dinah Shore golf championship. Held in Palm Springs April 3-7, the Dinah is a five-day celebration created by Mariah Hanson to “celebrate, unite, and empower women.” There will be celesbians, pool parties, dance parties, and loads of music.

The artist list so far includes Daya (whose six-time platinum collaboration with The Chainsmokers “Don’t Let Me Down” skyrocketed her to mainstream stardom), Leikeli47, hip-hop talent Kodie Shane, DIIAMON’D ROYALTY, Bri Steves, and Dorian Electra with more artists being announced by the day.

You can keep up with all of the announcements, and more importantly buy tickets here.

Ladytron

Synthpop quartet Ladytron has returned from a seven-year hiatus with singles from their upcoming LP aptly titled Ladytron. Vibey as ever, the new tracks are an enticing preview of what the LP has to offer.

After twenty years of experimentation Ladytron’s new album “pushes the boundaries of electronic pop in invigorating directions with thirteen songs that explore the disquiet of our times.”

If the analogue synths and catchy hooks sound familiar, the group’s track “Playgirl” appeared in season two of The L Word.

Check out the single “The Animals” with the corresponding short film below. The full album is due out February 15.

Dido

Picture it: It’s the year 1999, everyone has a Lancôme Juicy Tube and a puka shell necklace, and the song “Thank You” by Dido is played literally everywhere. Who doesn’t know all of the lyrics to this late nineties hit?

Fast-forward to 2019 and we have a new album from Dido ready to inspire that same level of iconic gratitude. The acclaimed artist’s upcoming release Still On My Mind drops March 8. The album promises influences of hip-hop and folk and will be accompanied by her first tour in fifteen years.

If you preorder the album here you get instant access to the singles “Hurricanes” and “Friends.” Grab tickets to a show here.

Check out the lyric video for “Hurricanes” below. The song begins with a plaintive, almost melancholy vibe and slowly breaks in to a driving beat. It’s classic Dido with a modern twist. We can’t wait to see what the full album has to offer.

Amy Ray

We previewed Amy Ray’s new album back in September but for those who can’t get enough of the former Indigo Girl, she recently appeared on NPR’s World Café.

You can see the episode in its entirety here.

Check out Ray performing “Sure Feels Good” below.

Lauren Ruth Ward

Lauren Ruth Ward released her album Well, Hell last winter to rave reviews and has now become a bit of a festival darling. Her daring 70’s style mixed with her unique and seemingly limitless vocal range has garnered comparisons to Jefferson Airplane singer, Grace Slick.

Ward has released a new single called “Valhalla” and the accompanying music video directed by Alli Coates has it all. Poking fun at gender norms, Ward and her gang play poker to the sights and sounds of elderly men in lingerie, and later in the video literal snakes become their co-stars. It’s the kind of artistic delight we have come to expect from Ward who is heading out on the road with artist (and fiancé) LP for a few weeks in February.

Check out the video for “Valhalla” below.

Bitch

To close out this New Year round up is the appropriately named song “New Year” from Bitch.

At this point there is no upcoming album to promote but this banger is uplifting, fun, fierce, and the vibe we hope to carry throughout 2019.

Check it out below.

We hope this year brings you all good health and happiness.
