The temper trap – conditions

Now I know this album has been out for a few months but I can’t help plugging a band when they deserve it.

 I also love promoting Aussie bands and these guys just happen to be from a little place called Melbourne. I stumbled upon them whilst watching Video Hits one Sunday morning. Sweet Disposition, the first single to be released from their album was playing and I immediately liked the sound of it. It seems I’m not the only one who is impressed by them. They recently played at a festival in England and went down a storm, racking up a huge crowd of adoring fans!

Love Lost is the opening track and it’s awesome. With its constant clap clap and organ tune this song builds beautifully. It induces a reflective and dreamlike state with Dougy Mandagi (vocals & guitar) singing me through and placing a smile firmly on my face. Rest follows and its one of those songs that sounds epic without overdoing it. The bass guitar rumbles through the song and the guitar slides along with it building us to a crescendo which just keeps coming and going with excellent prowess. Sweet Disposition is track number three and the songs before as well as this make me feel like I can achieve my dreams and goals. When I listen to this album I feel like I’m catapulted to a plane ready to take off on the journey of my life. I know it sounds like I’m talking complete tripe but it’s just a power the band have. With lyrics like “oh reckless abandon like no-ones watching you. A moment, a love, a dream, aloud, a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs…” I’m sure I’m not the only one turning into a newly reformed optimised.

Hopefully by now regular readers would have picked up my love for the more alternative, heavier rock. That is why you should go and listen to this band if you haven’t already done so. They are unquestionably a more indie rock band but I still think they are exceptionally good.

Soldier On follows and is decidedly a more somber song than the rest of the album. I must admit that it is my least favorite song lasting just over 6 minutes. 3 minutes and 55 seconds in is when the song gets better and comes into its own. This is when I started to enjoy it. The somber feeling still resides its just more harnessed. The beautiful guitar tune helps to draw us back in and Dougy sings words that shouldn’t really be missed. Fader is the seventh track and brings back that sort of hands in the air feeling with catchy lyrics and tune. You’ll find yourself singing along in no time.

 

The lads bring us through more fantastic songs and one that really stuck out to me was the tenth track; Science to Fear. Again the song builds tremendously and really captured my attention. This band are remarkable at bringing everything together and letting it rip in such a powerful but controlled way. Put this one on loud and you will be taken along and yet again lost in the words; “….there's a science to fear. It plagues my mind, and it keeps us right here, and the less we know the more we sit still. My baby's stuck on a road that leads to nowhere, nowhere, nowhere”. What you’d be listening to this month, if it were up to me: The Temper Trap and that’s exactly why I am reviewing them!
