Meet Eboni Munn, NYC Pride

The communications manager of NYC Pride is fully prepped for an impactful season.

NYC Pride celebrates the LGBT community by hosting Pride Week events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community. Because we all celebrate Pride in different ways, NYC Pride offers something for everyone during NYC Pride Week, June 23-25. Talent lineup includes  the amazing Tegan & Sara at Pride Island on Saturday June 24 and Nelly Furtado, who will be closing Sunday's Pride Island. Tickets here.

We caught up with Ms. Eboni Munn to discuss the political importance of this year's events.

This is the first Pride since the election of the Trump administration. Will the current political context affect any of the plans, procedures and protocols for NYC Pride 2017?
We recently announced the four grand marshals set to lead this year's critical LGBT Pride demonstration: The ACLU, Brooke Guinan (FDNY), Krishna Stone (GMHC), and Geng Le (Blued.) The Rally will also go back to its roots. We're organizing community activists, politicians and more in response to the current political climate. With this year's NYC Pride March and Rally, we're speaking to the social and political tensions brought on by the new administration.

Do you expect attendance to be higher this year than last, and approximately what numbers are you expecting?
We are experiencing an unprecedented moment in our history and we're expecting the LGBT community and our allies to make their voices heard in immense proportions.

In your opinion, what will be this year's highlights for queer women?
We're heating things up this year! Starting with Moxie, our new grown and sexy Friday night event for women at Taj II Lounge. We're also excited to announce that Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Mary Lambert, is slated to perform at Moxie. On Saturday, DJ Taryn Manning of Netflix's Orange is the New Black fame and DJ Tatiana will rock the dance floor at Teaze. Rounding out the weekend on Sunday, we're bring back Femme Fatale—the exclusive rooftop party for women with DJs Nikki Lions, Mary Mac, and Tatiana. In addition to Moxie, Teaze, and Femme Fatale, I'm also looking forward to our new 3-day LGBT cultural experience, Pride Island. With Deborah Cox and Patti LaBelle on Friday and a packed lineup on Saturday that includes Tegan and Sara and Years and Years, our goal was to create a space that our entire community could enjoy. We're also looking forward to announcing Pride Island's Sunday headliner to get people excited.
