Long Beach 4th Annual Rally And Dyke March

Increase lesbian visibility with this year’s Dyke March!

Long Beach’s 4th annual rally and Dyke March will take place on the evening of Friday May 20, 2016 at Bixby Park. It is a free event.

The goal of a Dyke March is to increase lesbian visibility and support the rights of all women regardless of labels, including bisexual and transgender women. Inconsistencies in health care, equal pay, LGBT rights, domestic violence and hiring opportunities are still very real issues.

Long Beach’s Dyke March was the brainchild of local non-profit Artful Thinking Organization (ATO) and was led by marriage equality activist Robin Tyler in 2013, the inaugural year.

Over 400 attendees showed up to that first Dyke March.

This year, there will also be rally speakers beginning at 7PM, including Denise Penn, Mayor Robert Garcia, Dr. Vivian Price, Jenny Pizer, Lynn Ballen, and Kitty Tsui.

2016 will also be the inauguration year of the Jeanne Cordova awards. The award-winning author and lesbian rights activist died on January 10, 2016 of metastic colon cancer. The award will honor four Long Beach women who have done much to shape the world around them, for women and for lesbians everywhere.

The rally will begin at 6:30PM and the After Party starts at 8PM. All proceeds will benefit breast cancer research and will be given to the Los Angeles Pink Dragons.
