Fundraising Campaign launched to aid lesbian couple separated from their family by US Department of Immigration.
Jenny and Ottie are a bi-national lesbian couple that want nothing more than to be allowed to live in the United States and care for Jenny’s elderly mother.
In 2005, Jenny and Ottie were living in the Netherlands when Jenny’s brother died after a long battle with Leukemia. The couple decided it was time to move to Delaware to help take care of Jenny’s parents.
Both women obtained jobs caring for the elderly and were beginning to save to buy a small house to call home.
Due to a misunderstanding in complicated immigration laws, Ottie was informed by US Immigrations that her application was denied and she was being deported back to the Netherlands. She was given a ten year bar from re-entering the US.
The couple returned to the Netherlands where they were married.
Two years after Ottie’s deportation, Jenny’s father passed away from lung cancer. This only strengthened their desire to return to Delaware and be close to family.
Now that marriage equality is a constitutional right, Jenny, Ottie, and their family believes the climate is right for the couple to pursue a relocation back to Delaware.
However, the family is in need of strong legal support because there is still a chance that US Immigrations will not approve their request.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money for legal costs.
