Lights! Camera! Action! Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival announces its best-yet lineup
If you’re in Fort Lauderdale, a favorite seaside destination for vacationing LGBTs this October, be sure to get tickets to the 6TH Annual Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (FLGLFF). This year’s event promises to be their most spectacular season yet, with films ranging from comedies to coming out tales, dramas to documentaries—with genuine diversity and countless expressions of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender identities.
FLGLFF 2014 has expanded to seven days, and includes more award-winning and diverse films, special events and parties than previous years. The festival takes place Friday October 10 through Sunday October 12 and resumes Thursday October 16 through Sunday October 19. 32 feature films and 18 shorts will be screened.
The Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale serves as a beautiful backdrop for Opening Night films and events on Friday, October 10. The Filmmakers Soirée kicks off the evening at 6 pm, affording festival goers the opportunity to mix and mingle with many of the filmmakers prior to the U.S. premiere of Four Moons, which will screen in the Horvitz Auditorium on the grounds of the museum.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB’s Office of Film, Music & Entertainment will host FLGLFF’s Opening Night Grand Event, also at the Museum of Art. Attendees will enjoy champagne and hors d’oeuvres, musical accompaniment, and a “Marie Antoinette Living Red Carpet.”
“Fort Lauderdale is home to a dynamic, diverse community, voted as a favorite destination for the LGBT market worldwide. Finally having a 7 day festival, increases film screenings and events each night during the festival,” said Noelle Stevenson, Film & Entertainment Commissioner, Broward Office of Film, Music& Entertainment at the CVB.
“We are thrilled to play an integral role in the growth of FLGLFF, showcasing our city to film aficionados, visitors and staycationers and helping to make this a world-class event.”
This year’s FLGLFF roster includes two films that have been submitted to the Academy of Motion Pictures for 2015 Academy Award consideration in the Best Foreign Film category: The U.S. premiere of The Way He Looks (Brazil) and The Circle (Switzerland).
Sure to be a hit with lesbian attendees is the critically acclaimed film Tru Love, by Kate Johnston and Shauna MacDonald, a moving and evocative love story about the intersecting lives of three women. Friday, October 17
Ladies Night will be held on Friday October 17 at America’s Backyard, 100 SW 3rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Films will be shown at The Classic Gateway Theatre, 1820 East Sunrise Boulevard, and Cinema Paradiso, 503 SE 6th Street.
In addition to the Opening Night Filmmakers Soirée before the first screening and the Opening Night Grand Event following the film, FLGLFF has events and gatherings planned throughout the festival.
