Fran Dunaway, CEO and former Girl Scout, pledges T-shirt perk to donors of $100 or more to Girl Scouts of Western Washington
Once a Girl Scout in Kansas City, MO, always a Girl Scout! Fran Dunaway, CEO of leading lesbian fashion label TomboyX says she can’t wait to give back to the organization that gave her the skills to become a successful businesswoman and the co-founder of TomboyX.com. The woman-owned company has now joined the Girl Scouts of Western Washington’s #ForEVERYGirl campaign.
For the next 250 pledges of $100 to the Girl Scouts of Western Washington’s #ForEVERYGirl campaign, TomboyX is providing the perk of a #ForEveryGirl t-shirt. The online fundraising campaign has generated more than $300,000 in just a few days, offsetting a $100,000 gift the Girl Scouts of Western Washington turned down because it excluded transgender girls.
Dunaway, who started the successful clothing company with her wife Naomi Gonzalez says, “I could not be more proud of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington for standing up for all girls, including transgender children. I was a tomboy and the Girl Scouts provided me with so many skills that I’ve used in my life, from confidence to compassion.”
“Being called a tomboy was an insult back in my day. In the Girl Scouts I learned that my tomboy qualities—a spirit for adventure, standing up for others, playing sports, pushing through my fears—were good things,” says Dunaway, who is also a filmmaker. “All girls, including transgender girls, deserve the same opportunities I had.”
TomboyX, which features clothing and accessories for women, including t-shirts and boxer briefs, will provide a perk for #ForEVERYGirl donors who also believe that every girl, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity or geographic location—is empowered to unleash her potential, build her future and transform her world.
