Australia’s National LGBTI Health Alliance has welcomed the establishment of the Parliamentary Friends Group for LGBTI Australian.
“This is an important development”, said Health Alliance Chair, Paul Martin “so that MPs can be better informed about health, social and legal issues for LGBTI people”.
“The health needs of LGBTI people are very broad, and have not received adequate focus to date”, Mr Martin said.
The National LGBTI Health Alliance is the national peak body for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex and other sexuality, sex and gender diverse (LGBTI) people.
“The Alliance’s priorities include mental health, aged care, sex and gender diversity and research into LGBTI health needs. A multi-partisan group will be a valuable way in which these health issues can be considered, informing the work of several Government departments and agencies.”
Mr Martin said the Alliance is available to provide background and briefing documents to the Parliamentary Group on the range of health issues affecting LGBTI people.
