Queer electro-pop trio, TOMBOi, has put forth their first full-length project, the album, Spectrum. The synth-heavy body of work is already earning rave reviews. “Their music is full of pulsing beats underneath personal lyrics.. .and created a beautiful visual aesthetic, too,” says Rookie Mag.
Spectrum takes listeners on a rollercoaster ride through queer subtexts such as sexual freedom and the meaning of gay/queer liberation, and other topics perfect for your Pride playlist.
The album was inspired by the experience of growing up queer in the South. Lead vocalist Alex E says, “We pulled inspiration from our hometown’s on-going battle to pass a fully inclusive Human Rights Ordinance, personal relationships, and concepts of identity. When coming up with the name of the album we kept circulating around this idea that everything is on a Spectrum. We hope to use our music as a platform for social engagement. Being three queer women from the South, our music has a unique perspective, one that can be lacking in the larger realm of popular music.”
This debut album is self-produced. The band is currently on tour, hitting predominantly cities on the South and West Coast.
