LGBTQ Advocate And Beloved Bay Area Chef On Chopped!

Join Chef Charleen and watch her on Food Network’s Chopped!

This past January, Chef Charleen, known as Chikun in the Bay Area, travelled to New York City and competed on Chopped!, one of Food Network’s most beloved shows.  To celebrate, Chef Charleen is inviting the public to join her and the crew from her restaurant, Kainbigan, in the heart of Oakland at Somar Bar to watch the episode live.

Chef Charleen’s culinary adventures started on the streets of the Bay Area. She set up makeshift kitchens wherever she could, cooking in the streets, at local festivals, inside clubs and bars and in private kitchens for private clients.

After building a solid following of local and regional foodies in the Bay Area, she decided to open her first pop-up restaurant in Oakland in October 2012.

The delicious Filipino comfort food creations generated an overwhelmingly positive response with huge turnouts every week. Chef Charleen decided to open up her own brick and mortar, Kainbigan, in Oakland in 2013.

Chef Charleen and her business partner Christine De La Rosa aka Miz Chris are both fierce members and advocates of the LGBTQ community. They have made it their mission to support the LGBTQ, POC, Oakland and larger Bay Area communities through employment, donation and mentorship.

Being chosen to participate on Chopped! is the cherry on top of Chef Charleen’s dream come true.  Chef Charleen will participate in the first ever Chopped New Year’s Party with competitors getting the celebration started with an extravagant appetizer basket that includes $50 worth of caviar.

On Tuesday December 20th, join Chef Charleen and the Kainbigan crew at Somar Bar to watch the episode! Doors open at 5pm.
