New Play ‘Sometimes It Snows In Atlanta’ Addresses LGBT Mental Health Stigma

From bestselling author and playwright, Laurinda D. Brown, “˜Sometimes it Snows in Atlanta’ comes to Washington, DC, in October.

‘Sometimes it Snows in Atlanta’ is the fourth theatrical production from playwright Laurinda D. Brown, addressing mental health issues in both the African-American and LGBT community. Still subject to stigmatization, mental health issues can be intensified within these communities where suffering multiple stigmas is common. Stigmas inclusive of race, gender and socioeconomic pressures find common coupling with the stigma of homosexuality, especially in the African-American community.

The play confronts the taboos amongst three couples living in Atlanta, gay, lesbian and transgender, as they partake in therapy sessions which address depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety disorder.

Positive Scribe Productions, Inc. are bringing ‘Sometimes it Snows in Atlanta’ to Washington, DC, Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 3pm at The Anacostia Playhouse, 2020 Shannon Pl, SE.
