One of Melbourne’s favourite singer/songwriters, Jess McAvoy, has decided to take the plunge and relocate to North America.
The move follows up the success of her 2010 invitation performance at the Canadian music festival North by North East. So this is it, folks, Jess will headline the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on the 3rd of June for one hell of a send- off, supported by Leena and Ezekiel Ox (Ex Mammal), among others.
Recently short-listed for the APRA Professional Development Awards (celebrating and supporting the careers of outstanding Australian musicians), McAvoy says the Corner Hotel farewell show promises to be a celebration of her friendships and involvement in the independent Australian music industry to date, a thank you to her supporters, and a musical love-in peppered with cameos by some of Australia’s A-list of performers – some of whom will pay the ultimate musical compliment by interpreting their favourites from McAvoy’s 200+ original songbook.
McAvoy is a celebrated musician on the indie scene in Australia. She produces her albums under her own label, many of which have been met with critical acclaim. The Age said of McAvoy, “Let me make it easier for you…forget the rest, Jess McAvoy is one of the best.”
She will begin a tour of Europe and America before settling in Canada and starting work on a new project. She told us she is expecting to stretch herself creatively and will be consciously moving away from the acoustic styling she is best known for.
McAvoy came out very publicly last year with the release of her film clip “The Sailor.”
