Rainbow Babies and Kids Camping is pleased to announce that Member of the NSW Legislative Council, Penny Sharpe has agreed to become the inaugural patron of our group.
Rainbow Babies and Kids Camping was established 15 years ago when a group of lesbian mothers decided to start taking two camping trips each year to provide their children with an opportunity to meet and get to know other kids from same sex families.
“We are pleased that Penny Sharpe has agreed to be our patron.” said Deb Gavan, Co – ordinator of Rainbow Babies and Kids Camping.
“Penny and her family have previously participated in Rainbow Babies & Kids camping and she knows that our bi-annual camps provide fun and support to kids as well as helping to build a community that supports GLBTI families across NSW.” she said.
“Penny’s strong advocacy for the needs of GLBTI families means that Penny will be able to work with us to help Rainbow Babies and Kids Camping continue to grow so we can provide opportunities for more kids to come together and hang out with families just like theirs.” said co-ordinator Deb Gavan.
“I am honoured that Rainbow Babies and Kids have asked me to be their Patron. This group is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers who saw a need in our community and with nothing more that will and hard work, have built a bi annual event that supports GLBTI families.” said Penny Sharpe MLC.
From small beginnings of 10 families, the upcoming camp will have over 50 families from all over NSW set up camp at Easts Beach Caravan Park in Kiama for the 15th Anniversary on 8 – 9 November 2013.
The kids are the focus of the event. Friendships are formed or renewed and the children have a chance to hangout with kids of all ages in an environment that is totally kid friendly and about having fun.
The Program for the weekend includes activities such as
– Friday evening: Welcome and shared picnic dinner
– Saturday: Jog/walking group, under 5's playgroup, bigger kids tennis, beach, Organisers Meeting (all welcome), Meet & Greet, night-time family walk & lantern parade.
