Do you have spare time to write over the summer?
The Rag and Bone Man Press is a not-for-profit publishing house, intent on publishing books for social change. They’re currently on the hunt for writers for their next anthology, which will be a collection of stories about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex and getting older.
The story could be about you or someone you know in the LGBTIQ community who is older and has a great story to tell!
They would like to gather stories of first love, of struggle and defiance, of resistance and pride, stories of meeting that special someone – the one who stayed or was lost or got away – of passing on knowledge, fighting invisibility and of the comfort of friends and family. Many of the people who championed queer rights in the 60s, 70s, and 80s have stories to tell – funny and sad, courageous and powerful.
The anthologies do not have an overt political agenda but the stories raise questions and challenge societal prejudices. They share people’s lives through excerpts, poems, interviews, pictures or prose and hopefully generate much needed discussion.
If you would like to contribute a piece about yourself or someone you know, please send them your ideas (not the full piece) for a story by Friday 27 February by emailing [email protected]. Final submissions will be due Friday 27 March. If your story is selected, they will be in touch to let you know and discuss any required editing. They are aiming to release the book in November of this year.
At Rag and Bone Man Press, they work for free, for the love of their projects and as such, cannot provide payment if your story is chosen. They can provide publication, the warm fuzzy feeling that you are part of something special and an invitation with the other writers when they launch the book at the end of the year.
