Australia’s Homosexual Histories Conference Comes Out
Australia's Homosexual Histories Conference takes over Uni SA City West Campus from November 13-14, the opening weekend of Feast, South Australia's Queer Cultural Festival.
The Conference will be opened by the Hon. Peter Duncan, Attorney-General in the Dunstan Government, who introduced the legislation in 1975 which saw South Australia become the first state to achieve gay law reform in Australia. The Hon. Senator Penny Wong, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate will also be giving an opening address.
This extraordinary Conference brings together 80 presenters from Adelaide, across Australia and internationally presenting 30 sessions which range across sharing and preserving our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) history, community, memory & activism, HIV/AIDS, transgender issues, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander queer histories, marriage equality, queer sex, spirituality, creative practice-performance, film, digital stories, writing, visual and digital art. There will also be a special focus on the experience of ageing in the LGBTIQ community.
Community, activist, student and academic presenters tell their own stories, remember others' and reflect on the legacies of queer lives, loves and liberation.
