The inaugural theme for 2017 is “Respect.”
A new National Themed Art Prize is encouraging artists to inspire Positive Social change through creative expression.
The Obi Art Prize invites artists across the country to submit a current artwork that positively reflects the 2017 theme of ‘Respect’ and issues it relates to.
While it is relatively easy to express what respect isn’t, the Art Prize states that the artists must take up the challenge to express what respect is with four areas for artists to focus upon. These areas include Indigenous Healing, LGBTI issues, Domestic Violence, and Refugees.
The Obi Art Prize is open to all artists 16 years of age and over. Artists, universities, colleges, community centres, and social groups working with artists or working around these issues are invited to get involved with the Obi Art Prize in an effort to engage and inspire the community and effect social change. Submissions are now being accepted until the 31st of March 2017.
First selections will be announced in June 2017 and the final judging will be announced during the opening Celebrations of the Obi Art Prize Exhibition.
The exhibition will be held on the Sunshine Coast at the Main Event building of the Maleny Community Centre from 7th July to the 9th of July 2017.
